Iran - Arranged Marriages

Arranged Marriages

In traditional Iranian families, arranged marriage proceedings begin with khaastegaari, or formal marriage proposal, by a delegation (usually of parents and elders) from the man's side. During the initial meeting, various aspects of the marital contract (e.g., the bride-price and dowry) are discussed.

In modern families, particularly among the upper and middle-class urban families, the couple intending to marry usually takes the initial steps based on mutual choice and leaves the formalities of khaastegaari to their parents. Arranged marriages in the form known in other Asian countries such as India or Pakistan (marriage decisions made by parents at an early age of their children) are rare, except among very traditional families.

I think Arranged Marriages are different and traditional. I think that it depends on how you are raised by the way of opinion. Hollywood has given the impression of love and finding your true love and the freedom of finding any one you choose for marrying. That is what The U.S.A. promotes but if you think about it there are allot of divorces in the US so what makes you think that picking who ever would be right?? Maybe arranged marriages are better. Or maybe they are the bad ones. YOur parents forcing their children to marry some one that they don't know, and they don't want to know? Or maybe the people are (sorry if this affends some people) ugly or unattractive and can't get a guy to at least know them. So maybe arranged marriages help some people to understand them and start to like them from who they are on the inside and not a hollywood version of beautiful.
